I am heading to Detroit for a sales call. What are people talking
about these days in Detroit that is unique to Detroit? I need some
chit-chat fodder to break the ice with a prospect that I will be
meeting for the first time.

Am NOT looking for a review of recent headlines. More interested in a
man-on-the-scene report by a Researcher who lives in Detroit or
otherwise has firsthand knowledge of what people are talking about
locally.

Your response does not need to be lengthy as long as it provides
adequate information to make me look like I know what I'm talking
about. Just looking for some helpful talking points or the current buzz.

"Pregnant woman impaled on microphone stand in fall
Associated Press
Jun. 11, 2003 11:45 AM

GREEN OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A woman 8½ months pregnant fell from a
loft in her home Wednesday and was impaled on a microphone stand,
police said.

The 34-year-old woman was taken to the University of Michigan
Hospital, where she was in serious condition, hospital spokeswoman
Carolyn Mogan said. The condition of her unborn child was not
released.

The woman was impaled in the upper chest, the Livingston County Daily
Press & Argus of Howell reported.

She was in the home's second-story loft when she became dizzy and
fell, crashing through a bannister, Police Chief Robert Brookins said.

She fell onto the 3-foot microphone stand, which was amid musical
instruments set up on the first floor, officials said.

She called 911 for help, the newspaper said. After she hung up, her
6-year-old son called back to help guide emergency personnel to the
home, about 40 miles west of Detroit."
