Hi wolfie11,
I would run a virus scan before indiscriminately using a virus removal
tool...
You can do a free virus scan online here:
Trend Micro's free online virus scanner:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
You can scan without registering, or just enter your email address and
move to the next page. The web site will ask yo scan your computer. It
will then offer to install some files on your computer. SAY YES to the
window asking if this is OK. It's perfectly safe to do this.
The virus scan will take anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple hours,
depending on your computer. At any rate, at the end you will know if
you have a virus or not. WHat's really handy about this virus scan is
that if you DO have one, it's name is given to you and if you click
the name in the results window you will automatically be taken to a
web page that describes the virus and how to remove it.
And, since you asked, here's the link to the BugBear virus page at
Symantec:
W32.Bugbear@mm
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.bugbear@mm.html
There are variations, but this is the main BugBear virus information
page.
Here's the link to the BugBear Removal Tool you see listed on the
page:
Removal using the W32.Bugbear@mm Removal Tool Page:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.bugbear@mm.removal.tool.html
Open both these web pages then call earthlink tech support again,
they'll help you get rid of the BugBear!
Bookmark the link below so you can get to Symantec's main virus page
easily:
Symantec Security Response - Latest Virus Threats
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/
This is their main page with updates on all the latest virus threats.
Hope this helps...
