Hi - Here's a list of about 300 company names. I need stock tickers
and industry codes for each one (very basic). I've done a few
hundred, and it took me a couple of hours. Figure someone might be
faster and could do these in less for $20.
1) Stock Tickers
I think the easiest way is to just go to
http://finance.yahoo.com/l and plug in the name. DON'T USE the whole
name, normally just the first word or two works. And don't sweat it
if it's not obvious, JUST SKIP IT. To make it easy - just grab the US
listings...that's easiest.
So for example, see the 4th listing down sheet - I
just typed in ICOS, and got this result:
http://finance.yahoo.com/l?s=ICOS&t=S&m=US The last one is the most
appropriate, so use that. If it wasn't obvious, then just skip it.
Some will be confusing - JUST SKIP THEM. for example, the 3rd
one down - IBP Inc gets this result.
http://finance.yahoo.com/l?s=IBP&t=S&m=US So that's confusing - just
SKIP IT. I'm just looking for someone to do the easy ones - Nasdaq
and NYSE stuff.
2) Industry codes - very simple.
Again back to the ICOS example...
http://finance.yahoo.com/l?s=ICOS&t=S&m=US you see the last listing
also says Biotechnology and Drugs - so that's B for biotech (see the
top of excel spreadsheet for codes). If it's something that's not
listed, just put it as Other. If it's not listed at all, just put it
as other. I don't expect you to look up what the company does -
that's way to much effort for $20.
Extra notes
1) Don't edit ANY of the names in the first column.
2) Easiest to be in excel, press CTRL-C (copy) on the company you are
doing, paste into the Yahoo lookup page, and then delete all the words
except the first word in the company name.
3) JUST DO THE EASY ONES - I can't stress this enough - if it's not
obvious, then SKIP IT. Thanks!

OK - I JUST REALIZED you can't attach a file. Makes it alittle more
difficult, but no biggie.
Just take this, paste it into excel or create a table in word. In
fact, if you select everything below, and paste into excel, the
columns will already be there (just resize the first column so you can
read the company names).
