Hi biggles69, A DVD player such as recent versions of Windows Media Player will refuse to play a Macrovision-protected DVD unless either: the "TV signal out" function in your video card is switched off or: your video card supports Macrovision copy protection. The Macrovision copy protection messes with the vertical blanking part of the video signal so that the picture will display on a TV but cannot be satisfactorily copied on most video recorders. The assumption is that if you have the "TV signal out" function switched on, you might have a video recorder connected. Presumably the DVD player authors are required to cripple their software in this way as part of the deal to license the DVD specifications. Here is a Usenet posting summarising this: "Help with wm 9 please" http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=%23nHog3s0CHA.1712%40TK2MSFTNGP10 So I suggest to configure your video card to switch off the "TV out" signal, and to watch your DVD on the computer monitor instead. The "web" search yielded no results, but the "groups" search yielded the answer: http://groups.google.com/groups?q=0xC00D1167 Regards, eiffel-ga | |

Are you just trying to play the DVD or are you attempting to copy it to VHS? Analogue Copy Protection (APS) is something cooked up by Macrovision to protect media. While a DVD should play fine, APS would distort the image so that a VHS copy made from the DVD would be unwatchable. Macrovision http://www.macrovision.com/solutions/video/copyprotect/ I searched in for 'macrovision' and 'analogue copy protection', as I'm somewhat aware of the issue. Hope that helps, Poe |
