I would like to identify the top 5-10 U.S. service providers of medical transcription services. These are the companies that actually do the transcriptions NOT the colleges that teach people medical transcriptions. I am looking for annual revenues, total customers (however measured), pricing strategy, geographic region served, technology used including if they use outsourced (overseas) transcribers, corporate/product positioning, and if they offer other transcriptions services. |

A tall order there but I'll get you started with what I believe is the largest service: http://www.advanceforhim.com/common/editorialsearch/viewer.aspx?FN=03feb3_hip33.html&AD=2/3/2003&FP=hi |

Your link took me to a registration page. While it's a free service so I don't mind registering to get at the data, I have no idea what company name I'm looking for. It would be helpful if you would provide that. Were you planning to provide other data as well? |

Whoops. Sorry, I've extracted data from Advance site before, so I was registered there previously. If you prefer not to register, here are the only figures of interest in the article: (...) "Today, while MedQuist has become a leading provider of documentation solutions to the health care industry, medical transcription continues to be at the core of their business. The company has grown from one office outside Philadelphia, to more than 73 offices nationwide. "Within that timeframe we've grown to more than half a billion dollars in revenue. (...) (...) Even though it's a large company, with more than 12,000 associates and 2,700 clientsit still retains the important characteristics of a small company." As to accepting your question, it has far too many parts to it and statistics aren't my cup of tea. I also have a couple questions that require further investigation and I did not want to lay claim to this one. I did, however, know where I could lay hands on this particular information without too much fuss. I'd rather keep your question open to a researcher who can devote the time that it will require. Might I suggest you consider breaking down your question into smaller parts? Your question is a bit unwieldy as it is. What are the top 10 transcription services? Give me X statistics on MedQuist? " " " Total eMed? " " " HealthScribe? Which transcription companies outsource, etc.? Just a suggestion, V |

I guess I'm under the impression that because you already responded no one else will - I'd prefer not to break down the project for one simple reason I don't know who all the competitors are and I need the same data for each competitor. I've gotten details on the first three through Hoovers but need help getting to the 2nd tier competitors. |

Oh gee, not at all, and I'm sorry if that's the impression you received. Your question is open to any researcher who can find this information for you. My comment has very little to do with whether your question is answered. From a researcher's perspective, multi-parted questions notoriously have a low success rate. We might find a some of your information but nothing to actually post as a complete answer. There could be a researcher working on your question right now. It's difficult to tell. Since you've found a bit of your information, you might post what you've found so we don't duplicate your research. What I can do is make sure to bump your question to the top of the researcher's deck so it doesn't sink down in the shuffle of current questions. How's that? BTW, the article in Advance was fairly current (2/03). Also if I find anything of interest, I'll post it as a comment for you. Best wishes, V |
