Question ID: 216673
Recently, I purchased a pink suede laughing buddha (in seated
position) statue from a retro second hand shop in Notting Hill,
London, England. It's about a foot high and cost around $15 (£10).
Unfortunately, I broke it when trying to move things around in my
room.

My girlfriend thinks she's seen the exact same statue in a novelty
gift shop a few months ago, so I'm assuming that it's not a 70s etc.
item, but actually mass produced in the last few years.

I would like help with tracking down a shop, online or offline, that
sells this item. Again, it's a laughing buddha figure in seated
position, and made out of soft bright/neon pink suede (it looks very
funky). This is a very specific statue I'm looking for (in particular
because of the colour and material) and no standard laughing buddha
statue will do!

Thank you for your help!

Hi leli-ga

YES! That is my buddha! It's exactly the one that lies broken on my
desk. Have you found somewhere that sells it?

Thanks

Note to researchers:

This is no longer available from:

http://www.charlick.dircon.co.uk/sandk/kitsch.htm

Nor from Banana Moon in London.

The customer has tried Urban Outfitters without success.

And no luck on ebay.

I have been told they are no longer being manufactured.

Hope someone has a brainwave.

Thanks for retracting the answer Leli.

I should add that Urban Outfitters does stock this buddha, but only in
Fuschia. I have tried, without success, to divulge the manufacturer
from UO purchasing department - who are retaining the knowledge on the
grounds of business confidentiality.

Indeed, my girlfriend had tried finding out from Banana Moon, which is
on the same road she lives on, and the shop she'd seen the buddha in
before, the name of the manufacturer - but they also did not disclose
the information on grounds of confidentiality. On a somewhat brighter
note, a less senior lady who works at this shop offered us her own
pink buddha free of charge (but it's chipped on the bottom ... though
not as badly damaged as mine, so it will do for the short term :-)

My search for this buddha continues :) A close friend past away
recently, and I found this buddha days after. It was the only thing
that made me smile in that depressing week. It has therefore gained
personal significance.

Someone, somewhere must know who manufactured it. The manufacturer may
know a retailer who still stocks it. All help appreciated in this
quest.
