This is only an interesting note so don't become misled by the
information:
While the Caddo and Choctaw Indians didn't inhabit this area, and this
may not have much to do with your situation (?) it is an interesting
subject about both the Sullivan and Burgess names (Your children's
father's first name "Burgess" was probably a legacy surname taken from
some notable relative of his past, as was the old custom)-
"The given name of Burgess also is used among the descendants of Darby
Sullivan and Burgess Sullivan, Jr., moved to Spotsylvania and lived on
adjoining land to Francis Sullivan (son of Darby and Ann Fugate
Sullivan) and to William Sullivan (wife Lucy) of Orange Co. across the
county line. It is important to note that William Sullivan's daughter,
Philadelphia Sullivan, was living close to Gabriel Sullivan's children
in Stafford in 1813. Three of Philadelphia's nieces married grandsons
of Darby Sullivan and Ann Fugate who were also descendants of Richard
Porch (d 1750). Since Richard Porch had a daughter of the unusual name
of Lettice/Letitia, I believe that Gabriel Sullivan's mother,
Lettice/Letitia, was a sister of Richard Porch! Both the Fugates and
the Porches appear to descend from the Martin family who lived on land
adjoining the late chief of the Patawomeck Tribe, Wahanganoche (nephew
of Powhatan), and it is this connection from which I believe the very
evident Indian blood springs! From the photos of some of Darby's
descendants, the Indian blood cannot be denied."
Interesting coincidence isn't it?
