Dear salmon,

You are absolutely right, and there is proof for your assumption.

Arthur Guinness (1725-1803) founded the Guinness Brewery in Dublin in
1759. He married Olivia Whitmore in 1761. Together, they had 10
children. One of them was William Lunell Guinness (1779-1842).

William Lunell Guinness married Susanna Newton (d. 1842). They had a
son who was born in 1811, William Newton Guinness (1811-1897).

William Newton Guinness became a Reverend and married Harriet F. Day.
From 1855 to 1880, Rev. William Newton Guinness was in New Zealand, as
first incumbent
of Christ Church, South Yarra. He had at least one daughter, Mary
Alice ("May") Guinness, who married Howard Rundell Guinness (whose
great-great-grandfather Samuel Guinness, ca. 1727 - 1795, was Arthur
Guinness' brother). But there might have also been sons of William
Lunell Guinness and Susanna Newton who continued carrying the name
"Newton Guinness", though I did not find that confirmed by records.

Anyway, it is absolutely correct that there is a connection between
the famous Guinness family and a Newton family.
