Hello stevebe,
That information came from the website of a company called ERS in San
Jose, California.
http://www.ers-shading.com
The product is called a Retractable Rolling Shutter.

Nearly every home in Europe has rolling shutters built in it. They
are the ultimate window shading devices that not only provide sunlight
control, but also cold, noise, heat, wind, rain, snow, hail, etc. Like
solar screens, a small housing box is installed either on top or on
bottom of the windows or doors with tracks mounted on each side that
the shutter curtain slides up and down in. The shutters can be stopped
in any position to let in full, partial, or no light at all.
They can be operated either manually or by a motor. The motor can be
further controlled by a wall switch, remote controller, or timer.
I found this same information (the exact same wording) at the website
of a company called Sunpro Hawaii.
http://www.sunprohawaii.com/shutters/
However, they add that that the shutter can be operated by sun or wind
sensors.
They can be operated either manually or by a motor. The motor can be
further controlled by a wall switch, remote controller, timer or sun
and wind sensors.
I also found a German company called Haller.
http://www.haller-rolladenbau.de/
Their website states the following:
Rollschutters are also available in special shapes. Like left
rollers, from bottom to top, sloping, pointed angular, triangled and
for round arch windows, as well as other special shapes.
Box and guides either in aluminum, enamel finished or anodised.
Operation of the shutters per hand strapmanually, or with built in
Motor into the axle, with electonic supervision control System.
To get to this information from their home page, click on the American
flag on the right side of the page for English. Click on products in
the menu on the left. Click on the first product listed, Rolling
Shutters made out of Plastics, Wood or Aluminum. Scroll all the way
to the bottom of the page.
Although I was unable to find it specifically stated anywhere else, I
suspect that other brands of rolling shutters might also be functional
when installed at the bottom of the window. You may want to contact
other manufacturers and ask them.
I hope you have found this information helpful. If you have any
questions, please request clarification prior to rating the answer.
