Hello there

Cape Breton was reunited with Nova Scotia in 1820. The total land
area today including Cape Breton Island and a number of small adjacent
islands, is 21,425 sq miles.

The US state coming closest to that is West Virginia with 24,231 sq
miles. The 41st state in land area.

The next state above that is South Carolina at 32,007 sq miles (40th)
and the next lower is Maryland with 12,407 sq miles (42nd).

Nova Scotia is just a bit smaller than Ireland and about twice the
size of Massachusetts.

Here is the website which states the figure of 21,425 sq miles
represents the totality of land area in Nova Scotia, including Cape
Breton Island. - "It is Canada - Tailor made holiday in Canada" -
http://www.itiscanada.co.uk/ti_nova.htm

For size of US states - http://www.infoplease.com/states.html - "US
States" You can use the interactive map or the menu to view state by
state.

For a more "official" resource for Nova Scotia's size, since the
resource I used above is a "travel" website, here is the official Nova
Scotia Government website where you will find those figures and more.
