From a market research perspective, you are going to have some difficulty finding very granular data for the type of application you offer. You will be able to find information about competitors via standard searches like easy web site development, etc. Here are two more research methods I reccomend: 1. Go to the big player sites in your space. Find the ones that are making use of analysts and then look in the investor and press release areas for statistics they quote on market potential etc. Then go to the analyst's site and see if they are selling or offering the study that the competitor quoted. 2. To find out their future developments, one method I have used very effectively over the years may be of value to you. Short of corporate espionage, these are some of the ways I have been able to get this kind of information in the past: A. Press Release will often contain some future feature lists. B. Look at their employment ads. While some companies will be very secretive about their future product features, you would be surprised how much information they are putting in their ads for developers, product marketing managers, etc. I have never been able to understand this blatant gap in security. There are more methods for getting this info and will try to get some time today to post them. |

Oops sorry. I forgot to add that you need to take anything you read from an analyst with a grain of salt. Analysts rarely write a report unless they have clients in the industry they can report about. They collect tens of thousands of dollars of fees from these clients on an annual basis. What they provide for those fees are: 1. Research services of the type you posted. 2. Research report access in their analyst library. 3. Well placed quotes for reporters in tech publications, about how great their clients product or strategy is. 4. Oh yeah and business advice on strategy and technology. I have worked with all the major players in the industry though and have rarely found their research to be much more than specualtive filler for your business plan. Brad |
