Greetings Peanuts88:

I have located the speech I believe you seek and a great speech it is.
:) Titled "Let us commence," it is located at
http://www.salon.com/mwt/col/lamott/2003/06/06/commencement/index_np.html
and Lamott's introduction reads "I gave the undergraduate and
interdisciplinary studies commencement address at the University of
California at Berkeley in May. A number of people asked for a copy of
the speech, and I told them I'd post it on Salon. So here it is,
shorter and slightly fiddled with:"

Then, she begins "I am honored and surprised that you asked me to
speak today. This must be a magical day for you. I wouldn't know. I
accidentally forgot to graduate from college. I meant to, 30 years
ago, but things got away from me..."

Should you require any clarification of the links or information I
have provided, please request it and I will be happy to respond.

The page you sent me to has the beginning of the speech, but not the
whole speech which is what I want. It appeared on the welcome page of
AOL under the heading of commencement speeches. Hers was called a
speech by an author that did not graduate from college, and the whole
speech was there. My printer was broken at the time, and I could not
make a copy. I too, found the one on Salon.com, but they only gave the
partial speech. I don't know how to ask AOL to let me get a copy.

Thank you for the clarification and the additional information. Had I
known you already discovered the Salon link, I would not have
duplicated your results.

However...talk about a learning experience...I returned to Salon to
locate the email for Ms. Lamott and saw at the bottom of the article
where one may subscribe or get a free day pass to Salon to read the
*rest* of the speech. I apologize for missing that last night. I
viewed the ad for the free day pass and then was taken to the Salon
Premium area. Once in Salon Premium, I cut and pasted the URL I gave
you above into the *same* browser (the one where I received the day
pass) and -lo and behold- there was the rest of the speech. It runs
for two pages.

I apologize for not spotting that little clue before. lol If you
have any trouble following my directions for the Salon day pass,
please request a clarification and I'll be happy to respond.
