Are you looking for US based websites or, since craigslist is a San
Francisco based site, are you looking for more local?

Hello nggd,

Before I noted you wanted 'free places' , I was nearly complete with
my small list of most popular.

Here you go (free for the taking)

Auto Trader
"Access 1 MILLION+ Buyers Per Week - List your car & sell it FAST with
an Online Classified Ad...."
http://www.autotrader.com/

AutoWeb
"You may renew your ad for an additional 30 Days at no additional
charge. In fact, you may extend your ad after each 30 Day interval
until your car sells!"
http://www.autoweb.com/

Yahoo Autos
"Get instant feedback on your listing's performance with easy-to-read
reports."
http://autos.yahoo.com/

CarsDirect
"CarsDirect reaches 4 million serious car buyers every month."
http://www.carsdirect.com/sell_cars/home

Cars.com
"For $35 you can advertise your vehicle online with a photo on
cars.com until it sells."
http://www.cars.com

UsedCars.com
"Sell your car for $10.95 for 1 month, $15.95 for 2 months, or $24.95
until it sells!"
http://www.usedcars.com/postCFS.shtml

TheBigLot
"All classified ads feature a 90 day money-back guarantee. If you do
not sell in 90 days, you may request a full-refund of the purchase
price."
http://www.thebiglot.com/placeanad.asp

CarsForSale.com
"For $30 you can advertise your vehicle with your photo at
Carsforsale..."
http://www.carsforsale.com/Sell_A_Vehicle/default.asp

Ausedcar.com
" Your ad will be viewable by thousands of our daily first time
visitors looking for a used car."
http://www.ausedcar.com

Here's the Alexa web search results for used cars should you want to
dig deeper into the list of great sites:

Alexa results for 'Sell used cars'
http://www.alexa.com/search?q=sell+used+cars

I'm assuming you have heard of Ebay Motors, by far one of the largest
used auto markets on the web :

Ebay Motors
http://www.ebaymotors.com/

Here are a couple more that may not be as popular as the ones above,
but hold a good Google Pagerank :

Cartracker
"List your vehicle online and reach millions of buyers..."
http://www.cartrackers.com/sell/

Autobytel
"Three Sites for the Price of One! Autobytel.com, Autoweb.com and
CarSmart.com"
http://www.autobytel.com/content/sell/index.cfm?id=13148

(note : the site above is obviously in partnership with a few others)

Search Strategy
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To find some of these sites, I searched Google for :

sell used car
://www.google.com/search?q=sell+used+car

As noted above, I also used Alexa to find the most 'popular' sites :
