Dear Andre44,
There are several ways in which you could integrate yourself in this
business.
You could contact a company, which has no representative in Brazil
(you may have to do a little research to find out if a certain product
doesn't have a distributor in Brazil, and if so, what is the market
potential for it to be sold there). Before that, you have to prove to
them that you are a registered importer (with importing license), as
required by the Brazilian law (at the Brazilian Ministry of Trade, see
their regulations and lots of relevant information at
http://www.mdic.gov.br/ ).
Since many countries encourage the trade with Brazil, and especially
the export of goods to the Brazilian market, you might get help and
counselling at the trade attachés at the different embassies. They
could, for example, give you the general guidelines for contacting
companies in their countries, and help you with that. They are also
the best to inform you on tax and tariff agreements between their
country and Brazil. Some countries also keep websites that assist you
to understand the import process and find companies:
Trade.Gov - http://www.trade.gov - USA
Export.Ca - http://www.export.ca - Canada
ExpoEuro.com - http://www.expoeuro.com/ - European countries (not
official)
WTC Japan - http://www.wtcjapan.ne.jp - Japan
CetraNet - http://www.cetra.org.tw/ - Taiwan
Great Indian Bazaar - http://www.infobanc.com and Indian-Chemicals.com
-
http://www.indian-chemicals.com/ - both India
EC21 - Korea International Trade Association - http://ec21.com/ -
Korea
Handicraft from Vietnam - http://handicraft.fromvn.com/ - Viet Nam
Xchange.com.my - http://www.xchange.com.my - Malaysia
International exhibitions, trade fairs and similar events could be a
good environment to meet people personally, make contacts and arrange
the import (or merchandising agreement) with companies. Several
websites make a similar job to that of the international trade fairs:
you could read about new business opportunities. For example:
DistributorMatch.com - http://www.distributormatch.com/ - matching
between distributors/representatives and companies interested in
exporting their product.
Federation of International Trade Associations -
http://www.fita.org/index.html - also uses the Alibaba boards.

ECTrade - http://www.ectrade.com/
The Mellinger Co. - http://www.tradezone.com/
WorldBizClub - http://www.wbc.com
Chamber Trade - http://www.chambertrade.com/
SilkRoad 21 - http://www.silkroad21.com
Digi-mart.com - http://www.digi-mart.com/
Free Trade Front - http://www.freetradefront.com/
Euro Trade Leads - http://www.eurotradeleads.com
Ecrobot.com - http://www.ecrobot.com
Trade Services Trade Networks -

Mediterranean Trade Board - http://eidinet.com/tb/exrates.html
There are also many trade-boards, where you could leave a message or
read messages of those wanting to export to your country:
http://directory.google.com/Top/Business/International_Business_and_Trade/Import_and_Export/Portals/Trade_Boards/
However, initial contact could be also made in the simplest way -
email or a letter, explaining your motives, your previous market
research, your advantanges, the initial capital you are willing to
invest, etc.
Naturally, you could also open a website, advertise yourself so that
companies might contact you.

I hope this answered your question. I used a mixed strategy - where I
searched not only for the obvious (terms such as "Brazil" and "import"
or "representative"), but through my ideas for action, I searched for
sources (for example "business opportunities" and "import"). Please
contact me if you need any further clarifications. |
