Dear Boxster,

As you may know from reading the terms of Google Answers, Researchers
are prohibited from providing any personal information about living
individuals, and so the information provided here is limited to
strictly professional. From the free resources available from the SC
Dept. of Labor, Licensing and Regulations online here (
http://lookup.llronline.com/lookup/Medical2.asp?license=011085&last=DEMOSTHENES
), I was able to find the following:

Dr. Demosthenes full name is Lauren Duffy Demosthenes and she is 49
years old. She is fully licensed in the specialty of
Obstetrics/Gynecology by the South Carolina Board of Medical
Examiners (license #011085) and is in good standing as of June 15,
2003. She received her M.D. from the South Carolina University School
of Medicine in 1981 and was first licensed in 1982. Her license has
a current expiration date of 12/31/03. There has been no disciplinary
action taken against her by the board to this date. She currently has
privileges at two area hospitals, the Greenville Memorial Medical
Center and St. Francis Hospital.

This information is also freely available, as Lady-ga said in her
comment, from the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners, here:
http://www.llr.state.sc.us/pol/medical/

In addition, Dr. Demosthenes is a member of both the American Medical
Association (AMA) and the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology,
facts verifiable here (along with additional information about her
education): http://www.ama-assn.org/iwcf/iwcfmgr206/SESSION_ID=289730/SESSION_AR=281/frm_name=aps_result?action_detail.x=hello&row=0&mem=N&key=0&amap=N&form_type=r
Also, if you would like independent verification of Board
certification, you can find it here for free:
http://www.abms.org/login.asp but you will have to register first.

In addition, three different practice addresses and two billing
addresses for Dr. Demosthenes were found here:
http://www.choicetrust.com/servlet/com.kx.cs.servlets.CsServlet She
is also listed in the Hellenic Business Directory, here:
http://www.hellenicdirectory.com/801101SC.SHTML and

It is possible to search for and locate other information about
doctors, including records of any sanctions against a particular
doctor, or a record of malpractice lawsuits, for example. However,
although some are free and require only some effort on your part, many
of these searches are not. The cost will vary according to the
complexity of the search and the completeness of the results, but is
usually quite reasonable, beginning at just a few dollars. It’s up to
you whether your need for further information justifies the effort
and/or expense. The preceding link is one, and here are a few more
links to sites where you can perform or purchase further searches:

Medical Malpractice Referral Network:

Health Grades Physician Locator:

Public Citizen Questionable Doctors information:

Google search terms: South Carolina physician information OR
credentials
                                   Lauren Demosthenes M.D. OR Lauren
Demosthenes OR L.D. Demosthenes

You’re very wise to seek information prior to entrusting your health
care to any physician, and I hope this gives you what you’re looking
for. If anything isn’t clear, please do ask for clarification before
rating and closing the question so I can be sure you have what you
need.

Thank you, and best wishes,
Byrd

Hello

I cannot find any information with the spelling you have. The best
thing I can offer you is the South Carolina Medical Board Examiners.
On this site you can look up a lot of different information. There is
also contact information if you cannot find the information you need,
in this case information on a doctor. You will find a Licensee Lookup
where you can look up the doctor by name or license number. There is
a section that lists physicians who have had disciplinary actions
taken.

If this has helped, please consider accepting this as the answer and I
will re-post it.

Good Luck,

Ladyd-ga
