The Harris Poll #49, taken in August 2002, gives the percentages of
Americans who report that they spend time in various hobbies and
leisure-time activities. Using these percentages, and a figure of 280
million for the total population of the United States, I have derived
the number of individuals who engage in each activity.

======================================================================

Every year at this time, The Harris PollŪ asks people how much time
they spend working, including at school and keeping house, how much
time they have for leisure and what their favorite pastimes are...
Reading, watching TV, spending time with the family, fishing and
gardening are America’s most popular pastimes... These are the results
of The Harris Poll, a nationwide telephone survey conducted by Harris
Interactive with a sample of 1,011 adults from August 15 - 19, 2002.
