I'm looking for a poem. Many years ago I read it on the internet
somewhere. It was supposedly found in an abandoned cabin in possibly
a state park. I believe it was titled "My Ace In the Hole" or maybe
just "Ace In the Hole". It was unfortunately anonymous. It contained
lines to the effect: "The nails I used would've made better screws",
"I'll gut shoot..." (refering to people who don't leave it clean), and
something about nothing square or plum... Yeah I know it's not much
to go on but I know it's out there somewhere. At least it was a few
years ago. My family has an old homestead cabin that should have this
poem on the wall. Please Please Please help! |

You say you found this poem many years ago... and a lot gets taken off
the Net in that many years. But anyway, do you recall what kind of
place on the net you saw it on? Was it a message board or a usenet
group? Also, many years ago might be a time before Windows 95 was
released, so you could have seen it on a more local network, like a
Bulletin Board System... but I'm just guessing here. Did you use Win
95 when you saw that poem or on a DOS-type interface? It will help
date your source and estimate the likelihood of finding the poem.
Well, certainly, the earlier, the harder.

Yes, good point. It was well after the web got its start so I'm
guessing it was in the '94 to '97 time frame. At the time I think I
was looking at log cabin plans or something. It probably was on a
state park website or a site about cabins and such. I am prepared to
be VERY impressed if someone finds this poem. As I remember it was
somehow 'famous' meaning that the actual note is hanging somewhere at
some campground.

Thanks for the information... but even with that, I sure couldn't find
it right now on the net. I will keep looking when I can, but I will
let other researchers try to find it too.

Thank you and any one else who is trying. I would mean a lot to me
and my father if this poem was found. I really wish I had more to go
on. Please keep trying.
