Just bought a 2001 bmw x5, with 44k miles on it.  having a strange
steering issue with the car.  when on a road with camber to one side,
the steering wheel pulls in the downhill direction when the breaks are
applied..

have there been any service bulletins from bmw related to this issue?

any other information regarding this issue is of interest to us.

It's my understanding that this is a function of the physics involved
in braking on an uneven surface. It's exacerbated by wider tires and
communicative steering, both of which are present in your X5.

If the pull is very strong, however, then there could be another
problem.
