Sorry I'm a bit late in responding to the question.
To search, I tried to use as many words as possible that would be sure
to relate to your inquiry. The searches were similar to "samsung
hitachi sprint phones pocket pc release dates" and then I used "pocket
pc magazine sprint release dates" because I had seen one of them on
the Pocket PC Magazine cover at a book store the other day. Other
searches including model numbers are also sure to bring up specific
sites related to your search.
These searches resulted in the following useful sites:
http://144.226.116.29/PR/CDA/PR_CDA_Press_Releases_Detail/1,3245,1111530,00.html
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/sep03/hitachi.asp
http://techupdate.zdnet.com/techupdate/stories/main/0,14179,2913918,00.html
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/sep03/samsung.asp
From the above sites, we see that the price is likely going to be in
the $600-800 range, they should be released in the 2nd quarter (which
means by the end of June), and that you can form an opinion on which
seems to be better. Below I will let you know which one I personally
think would be the better choice.
I previously owned the Toshiba 2032SP and now own the Handspring Treo
Sprint palm/phone, so I have experience with these types of phones. I
got rid of the first one because I could only use the phone on speaker
(or with an earplug) --a huge inconvenience and privacy issue.
However, the Toshiba model was running on Pocket PC, which would make
it much easier to manage my tasks, documents, and email. Since both
of the models you're looking at are Pocket PC, this won't be an issue.
Also, the camera feature looks like it will be amazing -- I'm eager
to buy a phone with a camera and Pocket PC, but will wait a few months
before I get yet another one. The capability of having a camera,
organizer, phone, and MP3 player in one device is really amazing.
As the Pocket PC magazine article outlines, the Hitachi model includes
a keyboard, making data input much easier. However, you have to ask
yourself how often you will be inputting lots of data, which depends
on what you use the product for. However, the Hitachi model does not
include 64 MB of RAM, which could cause problems if you are a power
user. Additionally, the Hitachi model is not as good looking, and
looks a bit bulkier, but is certainly not terrible. Overall, I would
probably go with the Samsung model (although it may be more expensive)
because of the increased memory, better look, and the fact that I
don't type great amounts into it (the Palm one I have right now,
though, is definitely very quick for typing with (it has a keyboard). |

I put those searches in without quotes, like "samsung hitachi sprint
phones pocket pc" or "hitachi g1000" or "samsung i700" (no quotes on
any), because Google is good about bringing up links that are
extremely well related to these terms. However, other researchers may
have better searching techniques that I do not use.
I suggest you get a laptop with Intel Centrino
(http://www.intel.com/products/mobiletechnology/wireless.htm?iid=ipp_mobiletech+intro_wireless&)
technology if you want a laptop. This allows for wireless access at
many hotspots as is described on their site.
Overall, however, this doesn't seem necessary because you said you
don't do lots of typing, you want to always be connected, and you
probably don't want to pay extra fees. Pocket PC's may be able to
access etrade, can do email, and can use Google, but ultimately the
decision is up to you.
The Pocket PC seems much more practical and portable, and would be my
choice.
