Hello This is a port in Tunisia close to the capital, Tunis, and linked to it by a canal. The Arabic name can be transliterated in different ways and the most common "English" spelling for it is Halq-al-Wadi. "Tunis [...] Access to the Gulf of Tunis (an arm of the Mediterranean) is by a canal terminating at a subsidiary port, Halq al Wadi (La Goulette)." http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/world/A0849692.html It is shown on this map under its alternative name La Goulette: http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/ts.html "Tunisia's chief ports are Tunis, Halq al Wadi, Bizerte, Susah, and Slax." http://www.amdsb.ca/ArthurMeighenPS/OurSchool/BondyWebPage/jw-8m/webpage.htm Here's a list of alternative spellings, including one with "el" rather than "al": Halq-al-Wâdî Halq-al-Wadi Khalq-al-Wadi Ĥalq-al-Wad Halq-al-Wad Khalq-al-Wad Halq el Oued La Goulette http://www.world-gazetteer.com/a/a_tn.htm This webpage has nothing to do with the port but shows how "al" and "el" are both used when Arabic names are put into English: http://almashriq.hiof.no/egypt/700/780/fareed-el-attrache/index.html I hope this helps but please don't hesitate to ask for clarification if you have any queries.
