Say I'm writing an article, and trying decide which specific words or
phrases to optimize. Does Google have a tool similar to the Overture
Search Suggestion Tool?

I want to be able to do two things:

1) For a specific word or phrase, see how many times that search term
has been used in Google over a specified time (a week, a month,
doesn't really matter)
2) See closely related terms and see how often they have been
searched for in Google

Hi Natalie,

Google has it's own keyword suggestion tool aimed at the Adwords
service, available here:

Google Adwords: Keyword Suggestions
https://adwords.google.com/select/main?cmd=keywordSandbox

Also of potential use is 'Google Sets', a site which will generate a
set of related terms from a single, or set of, keyword(s).

Google Sets

However neither of the above conform to your requirements regarding
available statistics about search frequencies.

I also found a piece of software called 'Word Tracker' during my
searching, which looks as if it will perform all the tasks you
require. However, it comes at a price of $6.99 per day's usage. You
can see more details at:

Word Tracker

If you decide this is useful to you, let me know and I will post the
above as an answer.

Kind regards,

mcfly-ga :)

I have compiled a page of such tools, but Google doesn't have one that
does as you require.
