I ahve read history books (eg Baumgart) whicxh state that had the Crimean War gone on into 1856 the USA would have entered on the side of Russia. Given that if the war had entered a new year both Sweden and Austria (and maybe Prussia) would have entered against Russia, why ? Why would the USA have entered, how woulds it have made any effective contribution and what was it expecting to get out of it given that Russia was almost certain to lose in Europe? Can you quote websites showing US politicians saying they will enter ? Thanks wolvies, lol | |

I have not found web sites showing U.S. politicians saying they would enter the Crimean War. However, I have found evidence of serious animosity between the United States and Great Britain in 1855, which I presume is what has led some historians to conclude that the U.S. would have entered the war had it lasted longer. If no one finds the exact answer you want, I would be happy to post this material as an answer. |

Well, as it may be true that no politician actually spoke those words I can hardly hold out for proof of a non-fact. Instead I would need an overview of President Pierce's government in its actions, relations and statements to Great Britain. Thanks wolvies, lol |
