Hi there,

Just looking for confirmation on the DVD burner and apps that I want
to buy for my PowerMac G4 with OS 9.2. Please give me confirmation on
the following points;

- Need to upgrade to OS X (10.2.2).
- Need to buy iLife apps .
- Need to buy the iDVD3 app since it's sold separately.
- When shopping around, I see numerous instances for the Pioneer
A05/105 that just say that it works for just the PC, so is there a
model that is just for the PC or does anything that says Pioneer
A05/105 run well in both platforms?
- Been reading about the Pioneer A05/105 here and other places, wanted
to know if the newly released A06/106 is still compliant with Macs and
the iLife apps.
- Whatever drive I get, the 105 or 106, I can simply take out the
internal Zip drive that I have now and install it in that slot,
correct? What do I need to do this successfully?
- I have a Toshiba SD-3750 DVD player that I can't confirm will be
able to play the DVDs that I'll be making with the equipment that I'm
thinking about purchasing.

Thanks!
Jose

One more thing that I'm looking for clarification on. Should I stay
with an internal drive or will an external work fine since I also want
to use this drive with my PC laptop?

You don't need to upgrade to OSX, but you probably should. I believe
iDVD comes with iLife, so you shouldn't need to get it separately (I
could be wrong though). I'm not sure you can replace the Zip drive -
it's probably a 3.5" space, and DVD/CD drives require 5.25" (I don't
have a G4 tower to check this on, however). As for compatibility,
DVD-R's (recordable) should play on almost any DVD player, however
DVD-RW (rewritable) or DVD+RW (a different rewritable standard) discs
are generally not guarenteed to be compatible with anything other than
the brand of drive that wrote them.

Thanks for the note damiam. I was finally able to find some info on
my DVD player, and it does play CDs that are made in DVD-R format.
Also, from what I see on the Apple site, you do not get iDVD3 when you
buy the iLife apps, that is a separate purchase. I'm pretty much
decided that I'm going to upgrade to OS X, and I'm only going to use
the RW discs on my computer and just use the DVD-R discs for the
player.
