What Operating Systems classes at accedited universities use the Mac
OS-X platform?

If there are few or none, which OS classes use BSD and/or Darwin?

Hi,
I found two Operating Systems classes that seem to be Mac OS-X
centric:
http://www.cabrillo.cc.ca.us/~dbacon/CIS172/admin/calendar.html
http://web.it.kmutt.ac.th/~siam/csc317/

I found other classes which mention OS X but I can't be sure if OS X
is a required platform:

http://www.cs.niu.edu/~freedman/courses/cs480/
http://vorpal.mcs.drexel.edu/course/opsys/

Please let me know if that helps you.
Thank you.

Yes -- particularly the first link is exactly the type of thing I am looking for.

For Future reference,
I used the following keywords(& variations) to assist in my search:
"os x" syllabus "operating systems"
osx syllabus "operating systems"
freebsd syllabus "operating systems"
bsd syllabus "operating systems"
"Implementation of the 4.4BSD Operating System" syllabus

I was not able to find anymore links for courses that use the Mac OS X
platform but was able to find a couple that use FreeBSD:

http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/~ware/cis662/lab2.html
http://www.dcsl.buffalo.edu/~kensmith/CSE422/syllabus.shtml
http://faculty.plattsburgh.edu/evelyne.tropper/433/433.html
http://courses.cs.vt.edu/~cs1206/Fall00/cs1206.html
http://courses.cs.vt.edu/~cs3204/fall00/struble/syllabus/
http://www.unc.edu/~dbr/inls182/syllabus.htm
http://www.ug.cs.sunysb.edu/~kifer/cse306/syllabus.html

Please let me know if that fully answers your question.
Thank you again.

Hello there,

From my experience in this area, university-level operating systems
courses do not focus on any specific OS, but rather the common
concepts such as scheduling, memory management, etc.

Some courses do include case studies of specific operating systems,
but the objective of this is to demonstrate the concepts on which the
course is based.

Hope that gives you a better idea of what these classes are about...

It may just be because I am on the engineering side of things, but the
OS classes I have taken/taught/known of were all grounded to some
particular system. For example, at my old school, <a
href="http://data.uta.edu/~ramesh/cse3320/"> this class</a> used the
Solaris [Unix] OS. I just finished teaching a class which used Linux
to implement the assignments, and I know that other professors at my
school have focused on Windows NT.

Ah I see what you mean...you are asking for course where the
assignments are completed using a specific platform, correct?
Personally I've only ever seen it done in Unix/Linux but perhaps
another researcher may be able to help.

Good luck :)
