Are there any forms of Christianity which adopt elements of Buddhist
philosophy without violating the classically held law of
non-contradiction? The law was invented by a pagan(Aristotle), but it has been
held as true by Christians since Aquinas.

Basically, I'm looking for examples of Christian-Buddhist syncretism
which don't really sacrifice any of the core principles of
Christianity, or is this impossible?
(small starting price but I'll tip if I like the answer)

Hello Danath,
I have taken the liberty of posting the answer since I feel that I
have acquired adequate resources to answer your question.

Today, many Christian groups who are open to ideas from other
religions often take applicable principles of living, like the story
of the teacup (a Zen master tells a student that his mind is like a
full teacup, which will not absorb any information), and that what one
sees is not always the immediate truth, truth is being discovered with
every step in life. The practice of meditation is considered helpful
by many Christian ministers today. However, I do not see reincarnation
as part of Christian doctrine. Pardon the subjective view, I don’t
think it is possible to create a mix of the two belief systems without
sacrificing the basic doctrine of each.

There are many instances in which Buddhism gets mixed into
Christianity, and I suppose they are quite loose. There are a few
mentions though of formally established groups that combine Christian
and Buddhist doctrines. I’ll list whatever mention on the Net I can
find below.

There are some who call themselves "Zen Christians," but I do not
think there's a formal denomination by that name.

Many "New Age" sects have taken elements of both Christianity and
Buddhism. Whether these groups are genuinely Christian is a very
controversial topic. Two venerable examples of churches which have
features of both Christianity and Eastern religions are Christian
Science and Unity School of Christianity.

You might want to read the works of Alan Watts, Thomas Merton, and
Teilhard de Chardin, all of whom combine elements of both Christianity
and Buddhism in their writings.

I am posting this as a comment, rather than an answer, since it is my
personal belief that admixtures of Christianity and Buddhism are
inevitably heretical from the Christian viewpoint.

The Essenes may qualify for what you are seeking. Also, perhaps the
Gnostics and/or the Cathars share the same type of worship. Have you
reviewed these sects? What you'll find are not Buddhism-acknowledged
paths but ones that encompass the same core beliefs.

Best regards,

If you compare Christianity with Buddhism, the one main commonality is
non-harm to fellow inhabitants of this Earth. Buddhism offers no
relief from our ongoing problems worldwide, e.g. wars, pollution,
greed, dishonesty. So called Christianity, or more accurately,
ChristenDOM [sic]is definitely not doing the right thing when they
bless men and machines going off to war. The Bible does offer a future
for men on this Earth, and it can only be achieved by God himself. If
we think we can fix our problems by ourselves, we are mistaken.
Jeremiah 10;23 says " I well know, Oh Jehovah, that to earthly man his
way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to
direct his step. Straight from God`s own word to us that we cannot
achieve any sort of peace by our own means. God`s method is to clean
out the present house [Earth] and put in new tenants that will not
mark the carpet or use the doors as firewood. In the Bible, this
eviction is called ARMAGEDDON and the death toll from this will be so
great that the birds will have a feast off our bones Revelation 19;17
& 18 [ Come here, be gathered together to the great evening meal of
God. That you may eat the fleshy parts of Kings...Military
Commanders...strong men...horses....riders...of
all...freemen...slaves....small ones and great. Habakkuk 2;3 says For
the vision is yet for the appointed time., and it keeps on panting to
the end, and it will not tell a lie. Even if it should delay [ from
our point of view] keep in expectation of it.For it will without fail
come true. It will not be late." So the correct following of and
understanding of the Bible does offer hope for those doing the things
that God sees as right. For those ones the promise is found at
Revelation 20;4.. And HE will wipe out every tear from their eyes and
death will be no more, Neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be
any more, the former things have passed away. So we will still be on
the Earth with no death or pain. Nice Eh! Buddhists don`t offer
anything like this.
