I need to know where I can download a tech. manual (or just the timing
info) on a New Holland 268 Hay baler. I do not want to order because
of the del. time.

Hello phonecenter,

We can sympathize with you completely and your need for a quick
solution, as we have a New Holland 270 baler. We have the 271 manual
that we used for our 270, however, it is in French. We don't know if
the timing for the 268 is the same as for the 270/271.

We have not used our baler for ten years, so our memory is a bit
foggy. The needles, distributor and entry of the plunger all need to
be timed. If you have never done it, you really need either someone
with you who knows how to do it or you will need the photos that go
along with the instructions.

If you think we can be of help, let me know - it would involve quite a
bit of work (typing, taking photos, translating?). However, getting
your hands on the manual is preferred.

"...manuals are still readily available from NH [New Holland]."
"Trip the baler and spin it over a round or 2 by hand to check the
timing and for hard spots. With no hay in it the baler should turn
over and go thru the tying motions with just hand pressure."

we are fairly mechanical. We have a friend who is a machinery mech. he
just lives too far away. We have about 50 acres of hay down and were
in a hurry. however another friend let us borrow his 273 today(thank
God).We have two people that know enough to get in trouble timing. We
took a link out of the chain. It was too loose. It will bale however
the twine isn't catching on the bottom from the needle. Maybe! It was
making knots but cutting the twine behinde the knot therefore the bale
was not tied together. I think we are missing the timing on the
knotters. I don't think anyone has set it since the needles broke and
were replaced.

Hi phonecenter - Thanks for letting us know someone loaned you a baler
- wherever you are, we hope the weather holds! At least now you have
some time to find a manual - here are two links that may or may not
help.

We suggest buying a new chain before you time it.

Good luck,
