Question ID: 221369
Where can I buy Vanessa Mae's video "The Violin Player." This video
made her famous--it played in all the music stores. I am interested
in any high-quality format (VHS, DVD, video CD, etc.).

Hi Gamin,

I remember 'The Violin Player' with affection though I never saw a
video. However there was no single track named 'The Violin Player' as
that was just the title of the album.

You can check the track listing here:

Gracenote (CDDB)

The official discography on Vanessa Mae's own site lists all the
promotional videos she has released and only one of these was from the
era of 'The Violin Player' (1995), which was 'Toccata and Fugue'.

Could you be thinking of the video to 'Toccata and Fugue'? Certainly
this was the big single at that time. You can see a sample from it
here in QuickTime format.

If this is the video you're after, it's listed as being made available
by EMI Hong Kong only as a Video CD and even Vanessa Mae's own site
describes it as low quality.

Poe, thanks for useful comments.
Yes, the track for the video I am looking for was almost certainly
"Toccata and Fugue in D minor." I viewed the quicktime video clip at
http://www.vanessamae.com/toccata.shtml, and it seems to be what I
recollect. The question remains: Where can I buy it? What is EMI's
catalogue number (I tried to search http://www.emiclassics.com/ but
did not get anywhere)?
Gamin.

Damin,

Glad that this is the one you're looking for.

The good news is that it's available in the VCD format common in China
and Hong Kong and therefore cheaper than a DVD or VHS. The bad news is
that I would guess that it would be very hard to find this title as it
is long out of print.

The catalogue number is 55508928 and it was available from EMI Hong
Kong only. It hasn't been released on any official DVD or VHS.

There is an international Vanessa Mae mailing list that would seem to
be a good place to contact other fans who may have this sort of
collectable material for sale. I would recommend signing up and
posting your query there.

Vanessa Mae - Mailing List

You could try contacting EMI Hong Kong direct. You can find various
contact addresses at the following link:

EMI - Hong Kong
http://www.emimusicpub.com/worldwide/around_the_world/hong-kong_home.html

Alternatively you could try an online marketplace such as eBay (though
there are no VCDs available at present):

eBay - Search for Vanessa Mae
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&query=vanessa+mae

I realise that this doesn't put a copy of the video into your hands
but I'm not sure how much further I can research this. Would this
qualify as an answer for you?
