Question ID: 221469
I want to record long dictations (5 hours) and be able to transfer and
play that on a CD Player. Quality of playback should be good.

Please suggest a user friendly portable Voice Recorder that
1. can transfer the files FROM RECORDER TO HARD DISK quickly quickly
and easily, without hassles and crashes
2. has in built memory for 4-5 hours of voice recording and has
provision for REMOVABLE memory media so that I don’t have to transfer
files from the recorder too frequently

Please note, most MP3 players are not designed to provide the above
two functions.

MY BUDGET US$200

The recorder should be a known brand so that it is easy to find in
shops. Note, I will not buy on the Net.

I don’t need any frills (eg, voice recognition etc).

Please note, I have considered
- Olympus Voice Recorder/ MP3 Player DM1
- PoGo's MP3 Recorder RipFlash (not available where I live)

The MP3 or wav files can easily be burned (through burner or Windows
Media Player) as music audio cdda files on a CD-R that can play on any
home CD Player. The MP3 files can also be played as MP3 files on newer
MP3 CD Players.

For such long dictation, you may want to consider a Creative Labs
Nomad Jukebox 2 or Jukebox 3. The 3 may be over your budget -
http://www.nomadworld.com/products/Jukebox_20GB/ is the link for the
Nomad Jukebox 20GB (Nomad 2). I didn't post this as an answer because
I'm not absolutely certain it meets your criteria, but if it works for
you let me know.

You might want to consider a Sony MiniDisc recorder, and buying a
cheap microphone.

Most Sony MDRs have a "Long Play" feature, so you can record in MONO
for just over 5 hours on the one disc. Newer MDRs also have a NetMD
feature which can transfer the audio files digitally to and from your
PC.

This option might be a bit over budget, but it provides a lot of
flexibility.

Also on the Sony website, is the ICD-P17 Digital Voice Recorder.

It has up to 278 minutes of talk time (just under 5 hours) and USB
transfer to PC. The list price is $99 USD.

The next model up with 5 hours 34 minutes of talk time is the ICD-ST10
which lists at $149 USD.

Use the Sony website and do a search for the model numbers listed.

Cheers!
