I'm not sure that you can modify a CRV to become a heavy duty towing vehicle. That would be a truck. But I can give you some advice to tow with what you have already... Drive slowly and carefully. One reason for the tow capacity is safety. The vehicle braking, cornering, and general handling are affected by towed weight. Also, keep the engine in a decent RPM range. Do not "lug" the engine... stay out of low RPM range under load. This means downshifting if it's a manual transmission, staying OUT of overdrive if it is automatic. Don't redline either, obviously. Lastly, when going over bumps, do in gently. The frame could be damaged if a heavy load slams the trailer hitch from a jarring bump. |
