Question ID: 221849
Where can I purchase a sterling silver charm representing the country
of Turkey? I don't want the Thankgiving turkey. The charm doesn't
have to come from the country but just a representation (such as the
outline of the country.)

Not easy -

Would you consider a tulip charm? The tulip is strongly associated
with Turkey and some people even call it the Turkish national flower.

"The Turks of the Ottoman Empire were the first culture to celebrate
the beauty of the tulip and to begin to cultivate and hybridize the
flower. The tulip remains the national flower of modern Turkey."

Hello icecream79-ga,

I, too, would like to have more information about what kind of symbols
would be acceptable. The star and crescent from the Turkish flag
immediately comes to mind and I’ve found some charms in both gold and
silver and various styles. I also thought that the “blue eye” charms
might be fun and add color to a sterling silver charm bracelet.
http://www.caravanturkey.com/nazarlik.html I wasn’t able to find any
charms that have the outline of the country or possibly a
representation of the Bosporus. I also came up empty handed on famous
buildings -- Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace or a generic
minaret.

I’d like to know more about your preferences before I try to answer
your question. Thanks.

Since you did not mention how much you were willing to spend on such a
charm, here is a place where you may have one made just for you. The
prices on the charms shown all range under $20 US and the prices shown
are all for sterling silver.

The examples shown are charms made as country cut out maps. Most
Charms are available in 14K Gold (G), Sterling Silver (SS), 10K Gold
(10K) and Gold Plate (GP) - and they are engraveable.

Turkey is not one of the map charms pictured on the page but that does
not mean they don't have them available. To find out if they do, call
800 362-7445. If they don't have one, they will make one up to order.
Custom made pieces may (probabely) carry a higher price than ready
made pieces already in stock.

You wanted to know where you could buy such a charm. This is the
place.

I'm not interested in the tulip, but it's a good suggestion. I would
be interested in the star and cresent. But I would want the cresent to
be on the left and the star on the right to duplicate the Turkish
flag.

You can find a turkish flag charm here:
http://www.carinacharms.com/cgi-bin/carina/CH2775.html
The only thing is that the charm is 18kt gold over stainless with full
color enamel rather than sterling. Price is $18 US.

I still think your best bet would be the cut out map charm mentioned
in the main part of the answer. As I said, I have no idea what you
are willing to spend since you didn't mention it and there may be a
hefty premium for custom made goods if they do not have a Turkish map
charm in stock. But it is a place where you could have them made.
You mentioned in your question that a charm shaped like the country
would be acceptable. Though I imagine Rose Petal Nautical Gifts and
Jewellery of Cape Cod could make up a flag charm for you if that is
what you would rather have.
