Hello galeegee~

I am posting a revised version of my original comment, now that I have
more information for you.

Looking at the side effects for Carboplatin, swelling doesn't appear,
although tingling in the feet and hands is apparently common. See
Cancerbacup's informative page on the drug at:

http://www.cancerbacup.org.uk/info/carboplatin.htm

CancerHelpUK also has important information on Carboplatin:

http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/default.asp?page=4001

The other drug your wife was treated with definately has swelling as a
side effect. Check out this National Ovarian Cancer Association
article of side effects:
http://www.ovariancanada.org/treating/chemo/sideEffects/effects_08b.php

The article says that monitoring weight gain may help. There may also
be perscriptions that your wife's doctor can perscribe that will
relieve the problem.

Medlineplus suggests that if you experience either unusual bleeding or
swelling on Paclitaxel, the patient's doctor should be contacted
immedietly. ( http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a698035.html
)

Blood in urine can be a sign of infection, and infections in chemo
patients should be treated right away. (Risk of infection is high with
these drugs and infections can be very serious for chemo patients;
don't delay talking to your wife's doctor.)

In addition, you will want to check out what Cancerbacuphas to say
about the combination of paclitaxel and Carboplatin:
http://www.cancerbacup.org.uk/info/comb-paclitaxel.htm

Hope this helps,

Hello galeegee~

My mother-in-law recently went through chemo for ovarian cancer, also.
Afterwards, she had swelling of her hands and feet and was told this
was completely normal. Approximately 6 months later, the swelling is
gone.

Looking at the side effects for Carboplatin, swelling doesn't appear,
although tingling in the feet and hands is apparently common. See
Cancerbakup's informative page on the drug at:

http://www.cancerbacup.org.uk/info/carboplatin.htm

CancerHelpUK also has important information on Carboplatin:

http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/default.asp?page=4001

Since your wife has some hematuria, I would talk to her doctor. Blood
in urine can be a sign of infection, and should be treated right away.
(The above pages list risk of infection as high with Carboplatin.)

On the other hand, I can find no information whatsoever on pacitaxil.
Are you certain this is the correct spelling?

If you discover that "pacitaxil" is spelled differently, please get
back to me and I will dig up information on that drug.

Hope this helps,
Kriswrite

Could the second drug be paclitaxel?
