I am doing research on various artists(Painters) and am looking for
databases to access to find information on each artist. The list of
artists is quite large and the artists are sometimes regional--
obscure (California--Hudson school etc.)
Since some of these artists are notorious only regionaly it is
sometimes hard to find information on them --particularly before 1900.
Most web sites searched so far have well known artists but the more
obscure have fallen into some vacum. I have used
artprice--artdictionary and many more--ideally am hoping to find one
or two sites to search for artists name and short bio--

Yes I have tried this site as well as most that come up on search engines.

Another thought -

You could take a lead from long-time Google Answers user,
bluestreak-ga, who regularly uses our service to find obscure facts
and biographical data on famous (and not so famous) athletes,
musicians, radio hosts, dancers, writers, and even their spouses.

As you can see, we don't always get there, but in many cases have been
able to find the information bluestreak was seeking. Even in some
cases where the question expired unanswered, researchers did supply a
few new biographical tidbits by way of comment.

If you decide to go this route, remember to price your question in
keeping with the amount of research you expect a researcher to do.
Also, for best results, don't combine multiple artists into one
question. (If we can't find the WHOLE answer, we won't post anything
at all.)
