I'm looking for a report of a death in or near San Jose, California, on or about July 6, 2002, of a man of age 38 who was employed by Altera Corp. of San Jose (http://www.altera.com/), was one of six siblings, and was the father of two children; possibly by heart attack. Any of these details could be incorrect, but I'd want to see a match or near match on enough of them to be sure of having found the right individual. I'd like a name and any other readily available information. This is to corroborate a story that is in some question. Local newspapers are San Jose Mercury News and San Francisco Chronicle. Thank you, Apteryx |

6-26-2003 How is it possible for you to know the particular details about this situation and not know the name involved? Is it possible to furnish any more specific information about this case--what else do you know about it? Both of these newspapers have online versions/archives that can be searched but nothing comes up for Altera. Did you think of contacting the company directly? This is almost like looking for a needle in a haystack. SINCERELY, 4keith |

4keith, It may not be possible to find anything. I had already tried and failed using the newspaper archive angle, figuring the date would be the key. I thought there might also be death registers or something that experienced researchers would know how to find. But after I posted this, I searched some more and finally ran up against information about a new law that prevents display of that information online on account of identity theft. So I don't think I'm going to find anything. There are lots of ways that a person could know a story with plenty of details but without a name. In this instance, I don't want to present the particulars, but I have reason to doubt the veracity of a person who unloaded a major quantity of autobiographical information on me. I picked out one coherent piece of it that I thought might be verifiable, namely the recent death of this relative. But I was unable to guess the relative's name from this person's name. So I just took a shot with what I had--and this *is* all I have that might serve as identifying info.--figuring that there probably wouldn't be more than one match to this set of data. Apteryx |

I don't think this one is going to go anywhere. If anyone has an idea, post a comment and I'll reopen the question. Thanks, Apteryx |
