Greetings, vacruisier!

First of all, I have to ask whether you have submitted your site yet
to Google and the Open Directory, since you don't say that you did.
Many people are under the mistaken impression that those two entities,
in their omniscience, will just find sites automatically. While it
*is* possible that someone's site may be indexed by Google
automatically when it follows a link from another site, the best way
to be sure that your site is found by Google is to submit the URL
yourself. A little bit later, I'll talk about how to submit to Google
and DMOZ/ODP.

First, though, let's take a look at your site to see if you might be
doing anything wrong, and to figure out whether there are things that
you can do to make your site more friendly to Google and other Search
Engines.

First of all, a good way to tell what Google thinks about a given site
is to look at its "Page Rank". Page Rank is a number from 0 to 10,
calculated by a VERY complex computer algorithm, taking more than 100
different factors into consideration, which Google assigns as a sort
of measure of a site's importance and "relevance".

You can find out what any site's Page Rank is by downloading and
installing the Google Toolbar, which is an add-in to Microsoft
Internet Explorer. You can read more about the Toolbar, and download
it, here:
http://toolbar.google.com

Now, using the Google Toolbar, we can see that your main page,
http://www.pozoboxes.com , has a Page Rank of 1.

Your Catalog has a Page Rank of 2:
http://www.king-cart.com/cgi-bin/cart.cgi?store=pozoboxes&product=Boxes&user-id=&password=&exchange=&exact_match=exact

Your other most important pages have a Page Rank of 0:
http://www.pozoboxes.com/package.htm
http://www.pozoboxes.com/about.htm
http://www.pozoboxes.com/tips.htm

Now, if the Page Rank meter on the Toolbar was grey, or even showed a
Page Rank of 1 or 2 on these pages, you'd be okay. The fact that it
shows a 0 means that you have most likely violated one of the
Googlebot's rules and made it really mad, which has resulted in your
site being removed from the Google Index and the DMOZ Directory (if
they were listed there at one time).

Some of the things that make the Googlebot angry are listed in
Google's information for Webmasters:
"Your page was manually removed from our index, because it did not
conform with the quality standards necessary to assign accurate
PageRank. We will not comment on the individual reasons a page was
removed and we do not offer an exhaustive list of practices that can
cause removal. However, certain actions such as cloaking, writing text
that can be seen by search engines but not by users, or setting up
pages/links with the sole purpose of fooling search engines may result
in permanent removal from our index."

So, I have to ask if you have, in the past:
- used invisible / clear / 0-point font to include extra keywords on
your page(s)?
- used Automated Site-Submittal or Automated Search Results Rank
Checking software?
- participated in "link farms" (a.k.a. link exchanges)?
- included a page with many links to other sites on your own site?
- created more than one site with nearly identical information on
both/all of the sites?

LINKS and BACKWARD LINKS
------------------------

Right away, I can tell you that these pages have GOT to go -- you need
to delete them, and the links from your main page to them. They've all
got a Page Rank of 0, which means that the Googlebot does NOT like
them at all -- it probably considers them link exchanges, especially
since the page names all have "Links" in them. They are probably are a
large part of the reason that your main page has a Page Rank of only 1
and you're not in Google's index.

http://www.pozoboxes.com/links.html
http://www.pozoboxes.com/relinks.html
http://www.pozoboxes.com/genlinks.html
http://www.pozoboxes.com/movelinks.html
http://www.pozoboxes.com/mdlinks.html

If I look for the sites which link to you, I see:
http://www.alltheweb.com/search?q=pozoboxes

This page has a Rank of 5. This is good.
http://htmlgear.tripod.com/gw/guest/control.guest?u=brolling

This page has a Rank of 3, but for some reason you are no longer
listed on it:
http://ecstaseek.com/ecsta/seek?search=box

These sites have no Page Rank, and they are not helping you, so if you
lose your link from them because you remove their link on your site,
you are not losing much.
http://www.southbaltimore.com/prof
http://www.moverdirectory.com/movingsupplies.htm (REALS)
http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/class/movers.html
http://www.thesaurus-dictionary.com/files/b/o/x/box.html

These sites have a Page Rank of 0, and they are definitely hurting
you. E-mail them, and ask them to remove the link to your site from
their index.
http://boxes.411web.com/MOVING_BOXES
http://boxes.411web.com/BOXES
http://boxes.411web.com/BOXES/MOVING_BOXES

I do have to ask: why do you have two links to Busy Buddies on your
site, when they're not even linking to you?

As far as your counter goes, change the html source of your main page
from this:

<a target=_top href=http://www.escati.com>
<img src=http://escati.linkopp.net/logos/counter2001.gif border=1
border=0></a><br>

to this:
<a target=_top><img src=http://escati.linkopp.net/logos/counter2001.gif
border=1 border=0></a><br>

PAGE TITLES
-----------

You want to make your Page Titles work for you. These are the first
things that the Googlebot sees on your site. They should contain the
important, relevant words for your site, but not be *too* long.

Consider changing:
<TITLE>POZOBoxes Moving Boxes are our business Serving you for your
moving boxes, packing supplies and moving supplies</TITLE>
to:
<title>POZOBoxes - Moving Boxes, Packing Supplies, Wardrobe Boxes,
Tape, Packaging, Bubble Wrap, Packing Paper</title>
http://www.pozoboxes.com

Consider changing:
<title>POZOBoxes- Package Deals</title>
to:
<title>Moving Boxes, Packing Supplies, Wardrobe Boxes, Tape,
Packaging, Bubble Wrap, Packing Paper - Package Deals</title>
http://www.pozoboxes.com/package.htm

Consider changing:
<title>POZOBoxes-About Us</title>
to:
<title>About POZOBoxes - Moving Boxes, Packing Supplies, Wardrobe
Boxes, Tape, Packaging, Bubble Wrap, Packing Paper</title>
http://www.pozoboxes.com/about.htm

Consider changing:
<title>POZOBoxes-About Us</title>
to:
<title>Packing & Moving Tips - Using Boxes, Packing Supplies, Wardrobe
Boxes, Tape, Packaging, Bubble Wrap, Packing Paper</title>
http://www.pozoboxes.com/tips.htm

META TAGS
---------

Now, as far as your content goes, the Googlebot and other Search
Engines need to see some content within the first 250 characters or
so.

So, on each of your pages, change this:
-------------------------------------------------------
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
charset=iso-8859-1">
<META NAME="Description" CONTENT="Why run all over the place looking
for boxes, we have already done the running around for you. We
continuously compare prices, and have done the best possible price
shopping. All to give you our customers, the best possible prices on
moving boxes and moving supplies. All orders are delivered. You need
not worry about how you are going to get all these boxes home. Just
look around, and you will see that we give you great savings.">
<meta name="ABSTRACT" content="POZOBoxes.com sells boxes, bottom line,
and aids in setting you up with any kind of box imaginable to help you
move with ease. This is a site for moving needs, whether office,
residential, businesses, moving beds or delicate china.">
<meta name="LANGUAGE" content="en-us">
<meta name="CC" content="int">
<META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="Moving supplies, packing supplies,
Boxes, moving, packing, moving boxes">
<meta name="ALIAS" content="http://www.pozoboxes.com">
<meta name="OWNER" content="webmaster@pozoboxes.com">
-------------------------------------------------------

to this:
<meta name="description" content="POZOBoxes - The Source for ALL your
Moving Supplies - Moving Boxes, Packing Supplies, Wardrobe Boxes,
Tape, Packaging, Bubble Wrap, Packing Paper">
<meta name="keywords" content="box, boxes, move, moving, pack,
packing, packaging, supply, supplies, wardrobe boxes, tape, dispenser,
dispensers, bubblewrap, bubble wrap, paper, papers, transport,
transporting, transportation">

Then, to encourage Search Engine robots to crawl and index your page,
add these lines under your <meta> tags:
<meta name="Robots" content="index,follow">
<meta name="revisit-after" content="10 Days">

That's it. That's all you really need. The rest of those <meta> tags
just make it harder for the Googlebot and other Search Engines to see
your site.

TEXT
----

This is ABSOLUTELY critical. Search Engine Spiders don't look at
<meta> keywords or description any more, they look at your actual
text.

If you plug each of your pages into Search Engine World's Keyword
Density Analyzer, it will give you some ideas about how to improve
your text. For instance, here is your 1-word density analysis:

Total Words: 28
Occurrences : 105
Count Word Density
------------------
14 moving 13.33%
12 boxes 11.43%
11 supplies 10.48%
6 packing 5.71%
6 pozoboxes 5.71%
4 best 3.81%
4 orders 3.81%
4 prices 3.81%
3 delivered 2.86%
3 done 2.86%
3 possible 2.86%
3 shipments 2.86%
2 business 1.9%
2 compare 1.9%
2 continually 1.9%
2 door 1.9%
2 give 1.9%
2 great 1.9%
2 just 1.9%
2 look 1.9%
2 looking 1.9%
2 need 1.9%
2 place 1.9%
2 price 1.9%
2 running 1.9%
2 savings 1.9%
2 secure 1.9%
2 shopping 1.9%

You can see that the words "box", "packaging", "tape", "bubblewrap",
"bubble wrap", "wardrobe", and "paper" don't even appear on your main
page at all!

Furthermore, once you get rid of the two boxes on your main page that
say "Links", there is not a lot left to your site. You may want to
work on developing a lot more content for your site, such as adding a
page called "Contact Us", and expanding the content on your "Packing &
Moving Tips" page, perhaps breaking it down into "Planning Your Move",
"Choosing Your Packing Supplies", "Packing Your Possessions", etc.

I would recommend moving the credit card logos to the bottom of your
main page, and developing a nice little box graphic to put next to
your name at the top of the page.

Also, you will want to correct the spelling of "large" and "multiple"
in "Some lage orders will require multi shipments".

Should this statement:
"Shipments local to the Washington DC area will be delivered by
PozoBoxes."
really say:
"Shipments local to the Washington DC area will be personally
delivered by PozoBoxes."

Once you've got all your modifications made, it's time to go try to
persuade Google to let you back into their index.

Send an e-mail to help@google.com saying something like:
----------------------------------------------------
Dear Google,

I am the owner of http://www.pozoboxes.com .

I did not realize that participating in Link Exchanges would cause
problems for my website.

I have now seen the error of my ways, and I apologize profusely. My
site has stopped participating in Link Exchanges, and I promise not to
make this mistake again.

I am asking you to Please Consider reinstating my website,
http://www.pozoboxes.com , into Google's Index, and removing my Page
Rank of 0.

Sincerely,

<your name>
----------------------------------------------------

Bear in mind that there is NO guarantee that you will be reinstated,
or how long it will take for you to be reinstated.

You will then want to send the same e-mail to the Editors of DMOZ/ODP
(Directory Mozilla - Open Directory Project) to the Shopping: Home and
Garden Category Editor: Joseph Lionelle using the link on this page:
http://dmoz.org/profiles/joe4u.html

Include with your e-mail the Category that you are requesting:
http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Packing_and_Shipping_Supplies

At this point, you can also try submitting your site to other Search
Engines.

Be sure to follow their instructions; for instance, some Engines
request that you submit only your top-level URL rather than every one
of your pages. Failure to follow the instructions can result in
lowered rankings or even in being blacklisted from a Search Engine.

  Yahoo! (free unless you're a for-profit business)
http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest

**********
And just so you have them, here are the normal instructions for
submission to Google and DMOZ (but you don't want to use these now):

  Google:
(Be aware that it may take anywhere from 1 to 3 months for your site
to start showing up on Google; however, since Google also uses DMOZ as
a guide to its indexing efforts, you might be able to speed that up a
little by also submitting your site in a DMOZ category as described
next.)

  DMOZ (Directory Mozilla/Open Directory Project):
http://dmoz.org/cgi-bin/add.cgi?where=Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Packing_and_Shipping_Supplies

**********

Once you've gotten things straightened out with Google, you will want
to work on getting QUALITY backward links to your site.

Remember that links from a few ***quality*** sites with related themes
who link to only a few other pages (including yours) will do far more
to improve your Page Rank than links from one hundred other pages that
also link to hundreds of other sites.

Remember also that you want to get your links on pages which have a
Page Rank of 4 or higher. If a site's Main page has a PR of 5, but
they put your link on a page with a PR of 0 or 1, it's not going to do
you any good.

Finally, BEWARE of "SEO" companies or websites that make spurious
promises to put your website at the top of Google Search Results!

NOBODY can do that. The only way to get your website at the top of
Google Search Results is to have excellent content (text and links),
and to have highly-ranked sites link back to you.

*****

Also BEWARE of "SEO" companies or websites (such as WebPosition Gold)
that offer you "auto-submit" and "Search Results Ranking" services.
Google notices these activities, and using them is one of the quickest
ways to get your site permanently banned from Google.

It may be a pain to do this stuff manually, but that's how it needs to
be done.

*****

BEWARE, too, of sites (such as LinksToYou) that promise to enhance
your Page Rank through "Link Exchange" services. These are also known
as "Link Farms", and Google does NOT like them. Using them is another
one of the quickest ways to get your site permanently banned from
Google.

Here are some companies that do this:

http://www.linkstoyou.com
http://www.links-pal.com
http://www.reciprocalinks.com
http://www.iwr.com/free
http://link-exchange.bizhosting.com
http://www.addurlhere.com

In general, if a link to your site appears on a page with dozens of
links to other sites (especially if they're on all kinds of different
topics), the Googlebot will likely consider it a link farm.

<< Yes, we have submitted to google and the open directory many times
within the past year. >>

If that is the case, then it is quite possible that your site has been
penalized for "spamming" DMOZ and Google.

From DMOZ/ODP:
"An ODP editor will review your submission to determine whether to
include it in the directory. Depending on factors such as the volume
of submissions to the particular category, it may take several weeks
or more before your submission is reviewed. Please only submit a URL
to the Open Directory once. Again, ***multiple submissions of the
same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of
those and all affiliated sites.*** Disguising your submission and
submitting the same URL more than once is not permitted. If a site
you submitted has not been listed after three weeks, you may submit it
again or you may send an e-mail to an editor of the category for which
the site was submitted."
http://www.dmoz.org/add.html

You don't say if you have used Automated Site-Submittal and or Search
Results Rank-Checking software. If you have, you want to cease doing
so immediately, and not use it again. In your e-mails to DMOZ and
Google, you will want to apologize for doing that as well as for
participating in Link Exchanges.

ace
