Question ID: 222738
I am looking for the URL of a Japanese dealer of Japanese animation
(anime) cels known as "Anime Shop Pocket" or sometimes just "Pocket".

This forum thread will give you some background about the website.

http://www.eu.animanga.com/db/celsbook/cmd=thread&aid=25268&template=message.html&indice=10393264&var=tstart=31&var=tnb=30

I found Pocket's old URL in this newsgroup posting.

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22anime+shop+pocket%22&hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=off&selm=378c455c.42378440%40cnews.newsguy.com&rnum=3

If you ask people "in the know" about the URL, I doubt they will give
it to you. Also, please don't use my name in any of your inquiries.
As you will read in the forum thread, this is a touchy area for
some people.

As a bonus, I wouldn't mind knowing how you found the URL, but this
isn't necessary for an answer. I'm just looking for Pocket's main
page where their selection of products can be viewed.

Hi there. I couldn't help noticing that both the links you provided
refer back to information that is several years old.

Do you have any reason to think that Anime Pocket Shop is still in
business? If it is, I can't imagine why they would make themselves so
hard to find.

Well, as the Google Groups link (in the original question) says, it
looks like Pocket decided only to serve their existing customer base
because they had more business than they could handle--a lot of people
were complaining that it took upwards of 7 to 9 months to receive
their order. So, they changed their URL and told their customers that
they shouldn't give out the new URL to others.

I'm pretty sure Pocket is still in business. It seems like the URL
switch occurred in 1999, but here's a forum posting complaining about
Pocket's service from January 2002.

http://www.eu.animanga.com/cels/book/archive6/p13278.html

Also, in the Animanga thread from June 24, 2003 (in the original
question), many of the people posting either say (1) "I can't give you
the URL," and/or (2) "You don't want the URL. Pocket isn't that
great." They DON'T say, "Pocket isn't in business anymore." These
people are generally pretty reputable, and I can't believe it's just
some huge inside joke. I know this isn't the greatest evidence, but
it's all I have to go on.

Thanks.

Regarding the Pocket Anime link in the comments below.

http://www.pocketanime.org/pocketanime/

This doesn't look like the right site. The Excel spreadsheet gives a
list of available VCDs and SVCDs--episodes of various anime shows.
I'm looking for anime cels--the sheets of celluloid that are drawn and
painted on in the making of anime shows.

The Internet Archive Wayback Machine has some old pages from the
Pocket Shop's old address. The site apparently ceased to exist at this
address in 1999, however.

Just curious, is it now in Australia?
http://www.pocketanime.org/pocketanime/
there is only one link on the page (left hand side) and it looks like
you have to have Excel installed to view it. (I don't, redhat linux
won't handle it (LOL).
The site was last updated in February.

Dear Emanuel,

You can find fortifying evidences here:
http://pub35.ezboard.com/fsilvermillennium25214frm1.showMessage?topicID=329.topic

However, I haven't been able to find the site itself. I suggest you'll
try to go to anime conventions and talk with cel sellers - one of them
might confide with you.
