Is it possible to change the default position of icons
automatically placed on the desktop in Windows XP Pro? That
is, if a file is saved or a shortcut attached to the desktop, the
default location is the next available space closest to the upper left
hand corner. I know how to manually adjust desktop icons, preserve
alignment, etc., but I don't know how to make the initial placement of
icons the upper fight hand corner in the first place so I don't have
to move them there after they are created. Help?! |

Hi eleutheria-ga,
Good question. I was able to locate freeware that appears to do what
you want. (I haven't tried it.) If you feel this answers your
question please post a Clarification, and I'll be happy to answer for
you.

Hi tlspiegel-ga,
Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't been able to get that program to
work, but I suspect it wouldn't quite do the trick anyway. It looks
like Align Icons would only make it possible to right-align icons
_already_ on the desktop, selected manually.
My question regards automatically right-aligning or anchoring icons
that are auto-generated by XP if I save a file to the desktop. So I'm
hoping to determine how to change XP's default icon anchor position
from the top left corner to the top right, for instance, or better
yet, find a way to set the default anchor to anywhere on the screen.
This may be built deep into the GUI, but it somehow seems so simple...
Thanks for any additional help!
