My husband is addicted to sparkling water such as Perrier. At $1.09-$1.25 a liter, this gets rather expensive. I am looking for the best source for purchasing or creating this type of water for less than $1.00 a liter. If purchased, it does not have to be a name brand - it can also be a method that allows me to make the sparkling water rather than purchase it. |

Hi Paatootie, A very popular item in Germany is the "Soda Stream". This is a small countertop appliance that uses cartridges of CO2 in order to produce carbonated water. It is also possible to add flavorings to make your own soda. The initial outlay is quite high - as much as $200, but once you have invested in the machine and cartridges the cost per liter is well under $1 - more like 60 cents (and continues to fall the more you use the product). These machines are not as common in the US - you have to look for them. Here is one suppliers: http://kegman.net/soda_stream.html You could also keep your eye out for them on eBay. One machine recently went for a ridiculously low price: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2328330580&category=3202 Here are some consumer reveiws (in English): http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/electronics/small_kitchen_electrical/soda_stream_drink_maker/ Happy drinking! alex_p |

"NEW to the U.S. in 2003, this unique feature enables any household, professional office or workplace to offer unlimited carbonated water. The carbonation level or bubble size may be adjusted to your individual taste. The carbonation (CO2) is supplied by a disposable, pressurized bottle that is small and self-contained within the unit. Each CO2 bottle produces approximately 120 liters of clear, pure sparkling water. Of course, one of the greatest conveniences is never running out of seltzer water. Save over 85% on your cost for sparkling water." http://www.peakh2o.com/moreJetPro.php http://www.peakh2o.com/orderJetPro.php |

Thank you so much for your help. I also found http://www.sodaclub.com/default.htm which seems to be a less expensive alternative, as well as an auction on ebay. I appreciate everyone's time... Rebecca |
