I want a clear picture of a uniform of a 1940's NYCity policeman so
that it can be duplicated for a local play production.  You'd think it
would be easy but it isn't easy to find.

question. The pictures you want can be found but they seem to be
relatively rare; at least in the clear, fill-length sense. I did find

State Troopers, circa 1950: (notice the “cross draw pistols” –
handguns backward in their holsters with the handgrips facing
outwards. This practice was discontinued in the early 50’s when more
an more officers began having their guns were snatched away from them
and ended up being shot to death with their own weapons.)
