Janice Groman was a NYC-based ballet dancer. She had been born in New Britain,CT around 1937. She had worked with NY City Ballet under George Ballenchine in the 50's, was a soloist with American Ballet Theater(ABT)in the 60's, and co-founded 1st Chamber dance Quartet with Charles Bennet in 1969. She later had her own ballet studio to teach ballet. I'm seeking her date & yr. of birth. | |

Nice to see you posting questions again, Bluestreak :) Researchers: Groman died on 2 Sept. 1988 according to her obituary in the New York Times, which also put her age at 51. "Janice Groman, 51, Dancer Who Began A Chamber Troupe," by Anna Kisselgoff. New York Times, 09/07/1988, D26. I've tried searching the Death Index and Family search to no avail. luciaphile, Hi! How are you? It's been a while! Thanks so much for looking at one of mine? I don't know how I missed not putting her death date in there, which I had gotten from Dance Magazine, but I obviously did. It's so nice to hear your keyboard again! I only wish I had more questions for you. bluestreak |

Dear janicegroman, How phenomenally coincidental!!! Your name is the same as the subject of the question!! Hard to fathom. Hmmm. Could it be that your true identity is luciaphile?! I wouldn't be surprised. Either way, if you would be so kind as to post your information in the form of an answer, I can rate and tip you. I am so delighted that someone is still looking over my questions!!! I'm so thrilled! Did the obituary give Janice's place of death? I'd think it might be NYC. Could you let me know if that info was given? Also, where did you find her DOB? I'd love to know. Was it in the 1971 interview in Dance Magazine? |

I'm a "Groman" and was with her a month before she died in NYC. We used to visit her in NYC. My daughters are now studying ballet. |
