Please help. I just moved to a new state (Virginia). My driver's
license from Massachusetts had just expired. I recently went on a
trip where I misplaced my expired driver's license and now I have
absolutely no government issued photo identification. The only thing
I do have is a social security card, a couple of credit cards and a
bank card with my picture on it. My question is, what should I do?
How can I obtain a Virginia's driver's license with these documents?
I may be able to dig up a birth certificate if that will help. Thanks
for any information.

Hi travis_apple,

Not to worry, I think you are ok. To apply for a driver's license,
you must show two proofs of identity, proof of Virginia residency and
proof of your social security number. Here is a link to the required
documents for obtaining a driver's license in Virginia:

http://www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/pdf/dmv141.pdf

If you have your Social Security card, proof of Virginia residency and
your birth certificate, you'll only need to come up with one more
thing. How about this:

"Certified copy of school records/transcript issued by a U.S. state,
jurisdiction or territory or by a state-accredited private school"

If you haven't a certified copy of your school records, they are
usually easily obtained by getting in touch with your school.

Proof of residency:

Since you haven't a valid driver's license from another state, you'll
need to apply for a license from scratch.

Application form:

Fees:

Vision Test:

Two-Part Test:

Driver's Manual:

Road Skills Test:

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, please post a
clarification request before rating my answer.

Thank you,
hummer
