What single web page is linked to the most on the internet?

Clarification of Question by jrmjax-ga on 02 Jul 2003 11:04 PDT
I am not so much interested in what web pages receive the most hits.
But rather, what web page has the most links to it from other web
pages.

For example, Google uses the number of other web pages linking to a
particular web page in evaluating its ranking. If you were to search
for a page with no search criteria (which it wont allow). What would
be the single most "connected" page on the internet?

So far none of the answers (microsoft.com, google.com, and adobe.com)
have even come close to the top three that I found by guessing. Yahoo,
amazon and aol are way ahead. If someone can provide a website with
more links to it that yahoo OR a top twenty list with sources, I'll
consider that an answer.

By Links
62,302,434 external web pages that link to "yahoo.com"
40,233,900 external web pages that link to "amazon.com"
37,009,825 external web pages that link to "aol.com"
22,162,228 external web pages that link to "microsoft.com"
21,439,430 external web pages that link to "google.com"
17,306,787 external web pages that link to "adobe.com"
13,998,920 external web pages that link to "msn.com"

By Terms
20,900,497 external web pages that contain the term "aol.com"
17,633,479 external web pages that contain the term "yahoo.com"
16,185,216 external web pages that contain the term "amazon.com"
5,642,892 external web pages that contain the term "msn.com"
4,435,625 external web pages that contain the term "google.com"
3,142,377 external web pages that contain the term "microsoft.com"
1,306,388 external web pages that contain the term "adobe.com"

According to AlltheWeb, for complete websites, Google is just beaten
by Microsoft:

Google
http://www.alltheweb.com/urlinfo?q=www.google.com&c=web

Microsoft
http://www.alltheweb.com/urlinfo?q=www.microsoft.com&c=web

However, most links to Google would be directed at their home page,
while most to Microsoft would be to lots of different pages.

I believe that the Google home page would be the winner, but it's hard
to prove, because people link to google.com, not
google.com/index.html. Searches for backward links to a whatever.com
URL show links to the entire site.

Close to Google would be the Adobe Reader download page.

I'd second the Google home page but also have no proof.

I would guess that while Adobe Reader's download page would certainly
be one of the most visited pages on the web, there would be a massive
gap after Google. Not only is Google the most popular search engine,
but it its main page is widely regarded as the quickest page to load,
thus many people have chosen it as their homepage.

I'd also suggest that the Macromedia Flash download page would be
above that of Adobe Reader, as it is even more widespread. Somewhere
up there also ought to be the main AOL page that is the default
homepage for most people using AOL.

This report, compiled recently by a University in Hong Kong, indicates
the following statistics:

2.1 billion pages indexed by Google (2003)

2.3 billion pages indexed by Alltheweb (2003)

3.5 billion pages indexed by Openfind (2003)

So, if you'd like to accept this as an answer, OPENFIND is out front
at the moment with 3.5 billion links.
