Question ID: 224135
I have had a bilateral masectomy because of family history and severe
and painfull cyst. The left breast after mastecomy was very swollen, I
was told the swelling would go down, it has not. It is now a little
over a year, I have started having pain similar to the cyst pain, and
my left breast area is getting larger. I have not put on any weight
otherwise. My Dr says its nothing to worry about. Is it possible for a
breast to re-grow after a masectomy. Will I need to have another
masectomy to remove the pain, and if the breast is re-growing can I
still get breast cancer, as well a cyst. Please help me.

Hello - did you have any reconstruction as part of the surgery, such as a TRAM flap?

Has your doctor ruled out the possibility of adhesions?

Adhesions are not likely in the breast area - a very good thought for
abdominal surgery.

I had implants put in but I had a lot of abnormal bleeding so I option
to have them removed until I was properly healed.

breast tissue would not re-grow if completely removed: but it's
possible that not all the tissue was removed. You need to be
re-examined by your surgeon, or by another surgeon to see what they
think explains the current swelling.
