In the early 1980's [before 1984] my brother recorded on video a movie
set in East Africa. It was a comedy centering around the Safari
Rally, a car race held each year in East Africa. The two main
characters were stooge-like guys continually getting into trouble. I
am trying to discover the name of the movie.

Hi rifqah

This 1978 movie was an Italian/Kenyan production and originally made
under the title "6000 km di Paura".
The two guys are played by Joe Dalessandro and Marcel Bozzuffi. Joe,
called Joe Massi in the film, is the younger one and is a rival in the
race to his ex-instructor, Paul Stark. He's also a rival for the
affections of Sandra, played by Olga Bisera.

There's not much information about it online but I found a comment on
the Internet Movie Database saying "This movie was pretty interesting,
and had its funny moments [...] Lots of footage of the racing cars and
[people] getting shoved around by cops, also cars driving through
these cool trails, with stampeding live animals like elephants and
stuff crossing their paths during the race . ."

There's also at least one accident. It was shot on location near
Kilimanjaro with director Albert Thomas, aka Adalberto Albertini.

You can see a poster for it and one still photograph on this Joe
Dalessandro fan page:

If your brother no longer has the video, you can buy it - at a price.
I found just one specialist video store offering it under the title
"Safari Rally" - at $55 for the English version (dubbed).

If that link doesn't take you there, here's the page with the search

I hope this gives you all the information you need but if you would
like any clarification, please don't hesitate to ask.

Regards - Leli
