I have a problem with donotcall.gov. I kept trying to register, and each time it was denied. I kept trying, and finally when I got through they advised that Ihad exceeded my limit of telephone numbers. Actually I have none. I am trying to rectify this,as I am elderly and have gotten calls at 4:00Am and this is important to me. | |

You can call the phone number provided on the site for the same result which may be easier for you. The line is open to you now if you live west of the Mississippi, next week if you live east. Don't worry - the first list compilation will be open for over another month so you have a while to do this. |

I've heard they was an more traffic than they could handle and their servers were crashing. I read they had more than 10 million registrations during the first four days. Anyway, I tried it the other day and it worked for me. You might want to try again. PS Its about time. =) |

This isn't an answer to your specific question of accessing a website, but I was listening to our local radio station the other day (in Australia) and they mentioned a couple of strategies to *discourage* telemarketers. One is simply and consistently interrupt the caller to ask, "is this telemarketing?" and when they reply that it is (telemarketing/survey/business opportunity -- they're all the same) just say in the sweetest, friendliest way, "I'm sorry, I don't *do* telemarketing. Goodbye." I have actually used this approach this with every single telemarketing call for the last couple of years, and guess what? I hardly ever get calls anymore. The other approach that I thought was a bit on the mean side (but oh so tempting at times) was to interrupt the telemarketer mid-spiel and ask them politely to hold the line because you have to do something. Then you go on with whatever you were doing and leave them hanging on the phone. Chances are that after a few, fruitless minutes of hanging on, they'll give up and leave you alone. But remember, if you ever 'cooperate' with any telemarketer, or enter any company's competitions or answer any surveys, etc, you'll be back on some telemarketing database somewhere in the world and you'll have the problem all over again. |
