Hi,

What video card driver are you using? Are you using the default
drivers from Windows 98SE?
Have you tried installing the original driver of your video card?
Is 800 x 600 high color the highest monitor resolution you can set on
that card?

Hi Thorpe,

Your problem is most likely caused by incorrect video driver. The
driver that is currently loaded is probably for WinME. Since you
reverted to Win98SE, you need to load the appropriate driver for this
OS.

I found a driver for your S3 Pro Savage Video Card. You can download
the driver directly from this page:

Station Drivers.com
Pro Savage KM/KL
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/graphique2.htm#S3

The actual link is protected and I can't paste it here so you need to
click on the link with the title "S3 ProSavage KM/PM/KL133 13.00.08
driver Win9x/ME". I've tested the link for you. It takes quite a while
to download the zip file even on my DSL line so you need to be a
little patient on this one. After downloading, unzip the file to your
desired location. We will go back to your chosen location later.

How to properly install the driver:

1) Right-click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and click on
"Properties".

2) On the "Device Manager" tab, go to "Display adapters" and select
the current video card driver and press the "Delete" key on your
keyboard to remove the device. You will be prompted with a
confirmation dialogue box. Choose OK. Once done, restart your
computer.

3) On startup, the device driver installation will begin and will
prompt you for the display driver of your card. Choose Cancel.

4) Go to the location where you unzipped the S3 driver files. Click on
"SETUP.EXE" to install the driver. Restart after the installation is
finished or when prompted. After restarting, try to change your screen
resolution and follow the instructions. You should be able to change
it to your desired 800 X 600 high color or even to higher resolution.

Sorry to be so long in replying. You were quite correctit was my
video driver that was the problem, the difficulty was that I was not
completely sure which of the S3 Pro Savage Drivers was the best one
for my card and I crashed my computer in trying the various options.
So much so that I had to involve a friend who downloaded the correct
driver for me to install as I could not do anything fora few days. I
am now up and running again better than before thanks again for your
help. Thorpe-ga

Spot on but the only driver I have got is the one I got for M.E> I
seem to be unable to download the driver you recommend Internet
Explorer will not accept the final site even though I have reduced the
security levels
