While it is possible to get information on the square footage of
buildings in Milwaukee, not all addresses show up in the files (for
instance, only one of the two addresses you mentioned has an on-line
record).

If you're interested in general instructions for how to access the

Yes, I'm interested in general instructions for how to access the
records.

Head here:

http://www.ci.mil.wi.us/citygov/assessor/assessments.htm

to the City of Milwaukee's Assesor's Office, and enter as much of the
address as fits in the appropriate boxes.  Click on "Submit Query" and
you'll get a report back for the address that includes an item on
square footage.

For instance, the report for the address on W. Woolworth Ave
indicates:

TOTAL SQUARE FEET FLOOR AREA: 38,400

There is also additional information about any particular address
available here:

http://www.milwaukee.gov/citygov/treasurer/MenuTres.htm

from the tax records office -- searching is virtually identical, but
the results turn up different types of information.
