Question ID: 224311
I want to know what is published or otherwise available (like for a
price) regarding LEGAL TECHNOLOGY SPENDING by law firms AND, if
available, by law departments, OR by law firms and law departments
combined.

I am looking for historical data and especially trends and
projections.

I need to know specifically what's out there... is there anything on
past/present/projected legal tech spending by category and
subcategory, e.g., Software (document management, litigation support,
practice tools, time & billing, utilities, e-billing, security,
intranet, etc.), Hardware (computers, mobile, networking,
communications equipment, servers, storage, printers/copiers/fax,
presentation systems, etc.), and Services (consultants, research,
etc.). What you find does not have to be organized along these lines;
I am providing these sample categories as a reference only.

I don't need you to provide the actual data/reports/studies/surveys,
or to report on what they say - I just need to know what's out there,
what it covered, how current it is, how credible (if ascertainable),
what it costs (if fee-based), contact info, etc. Go back 2 or 3 years.

I can do the follow-up digging. I need sources and links. Also
articles from legal publications on the subject of legal tech spending
could be helpful.

I understand Altman Weil used to conduct an annual survey for the Natl
Assn of Legal Vendors but that survey was last conducted in 1995.

I understand the ABA published the results of a legal tech spending
survey in recent years, but I am told that their methodology and
motives, and therefore their data and conclusions, were somewhat
discredited in the legal tech community. (More information on this
survey and the related debate would be helpful.)

Perhaps some tech consultants or legal vendors have performed studies
or cited data that would be helpful?

I STRONGLY PREFER (but do not absolutely require) that the Researcher
who answers this inquiry be familiar with the legal technology scene.

I am posting a $75 bounty. I realize that a thorough answer might be
time consuming. A thorough/deep answer, presented methodically, will
be eligible for a tip of up to $125.

The following sources could be helpful:
Legal consulting firms: Altman Weil, Hildebrandt, BTI...
Legal tech publications: Law Technology News, Corporate Legal Times,
law.com...
Assns and Organizations: ABA, ALA, ACCA...
Links at www.legalvoice.com (see left nav, bottom)

Please request Clarification if this request is not perfectly clear
before you start.

Request answer by end of day Sunday, July 6. Sooner is better, but not
at the expense of a thorough answer.
