Hello dinan and thank you for your question.
Interesting questions. However there might be some problems, and was
hoping you could answer a couple of clarifications for me.
1.) The most recent data (form credible sources) seems to date from
1994/1995 is this data acceptable to you?
2.) The number of accidental police shootings is not known nationally
(see below) however there are some statistics for a couple of
individual states/counties. Would this kind of information be useful
to you?
Ask an expert. CrimeWise
"Q: I need to know how many accidental police shootings that happened
in 1996. I need them for a report on police brutality. Please answer
quickly.
Devin
A: I'm not sure how accidental police shootings relate to police
brutality. Accidental shootings are, by definition, an unintentional
act. Brutality on the other hand is very intentional.
In any case, I am not aware of any database, anywhere, that tracks
accidental police shootings. In order to obtain the data you need, it
would probably be necessary to contact every police agency in the
country and ask them. Even then, you would have to establish some
criteria as to what qualifies as an accidental shooting for your
purposes. There are many different types of accidental shootings.
Accidental discharges through a locker room floors or the roof of a
patrol car are pretty common. Do they count? Do you count only
shootings where someone is hit or do misses also qualify for brutality
purposes?
As you can see, you have your work cut out for you.
Good luck.

Hello THX,
I will do my best to clarify, I am compiling stats on the number of
guns on the streets, in relation to the number of accidental injuries
and deaths caused by police with their firearms. If you have any info
from any year (the most recent, the better)it will be helpful. Can you
possibly suggest an alternative source that may have more updated
data?
Thank you, Chris
