Hello Fawcett-ga,

Thank you for your question.

There are a number of excellent utilities available to block unwanted
e-mail. They come with preset filters so that you don’t have to bother
to block every e-mail address individually. In addition you may
download free trial versions.

=======================================================

McAfee SpamKiller 4.0

“SpamKiller stops unwanted e-mail before it enters your inbox.
SpamKiller quarantines junk e-mail, blocks known spammers, and helps
you get only the messages you want. Preset filters watch for telltale
subject lines, body text, message headers, and even country of origin.
SpamKiller fools spammers into believing your e-mail address is
inactive; imports "safe lists" of valid e-mail addresses so legitimate
messages aren't mistaken for spam.

Blocks spam
“SpamKiller blocks specific addresses of known spammers, just as other
programs do; but SpamKiller goes far beyond lists. Its comprehensive
preset filters also watch for subject lines and text within messages.
In fact, SpamKiller can filter on the sender's address, subject line,
body text, message header and can even block spam based on its country
of origin.”

Updates filters automatically
“SpamKiller comes with thousands of filters already installed and new
filters are released regularly, based on careful analysis of McAfee's
spamtraps. SpamKiller checks McAfee servers once a day for new filters
- so your protection is always up-to-date.”

SpamCop Email System for Individuals is another option.

SpamCop Email System for Individuals eliminates: “Ads for illegal
prescription drugs, pyramid scams, child pornography, and online
gambling mix with the barrage of solicitations for merchant accounts,
new credit histories, and cheap mortgages.”

How does it work?

“When email for you arrives at the SpamCop Email System, it is
analyzed to see if it comes from a known spam source or from a system
likely to be used by spammers. SpamCop has an extensive database of
spam sources that is automatically updated every two minutes. If
that's the case, the email is automatically moved into a special "Held
Mail" folder for suspected spam. What's left is your good email, free
of nearly all spam.”

“The SpamCop Email System can work with your old email address or give
you a new permanent email address that will work no matter what ISP
you use. It is simple to use, inexpensive, and means you don't have to
read all that spam.”

The SpamCop Email System is inexpensively priced at just $30 (US
Dollars) per year.

“In general, we preferred tools like Cloudmark SpamNet, Sunbelt
Software's IHateSpam, and Spamnix, which integrate directly into
e-mail clients such as Outlook, Outlook Express, and Eudora.
Stand-alone products such as Firetrust MailWasher Pro, Lyris
MailShield, and McAfee SpamKiller support a much wider range of e-mail
clients, but using them requires more work. The stand-alone programs
check your messages and winnow spam out before you launch your e-mail
application. Integrated utilities--like our Best Buy, IHateSpam 3.2
for Outlook--filter the spam from inside your e-mail client, which
saves you a step.”

Thank you for your answer; however, this is my situation, and
therefore, the reason I put a value larger than $10.

I barely understand the telephone, much less a computer and the
related software. We have a company with 10 different city locations,
and we need to block all the junk e-mail on all computers, PC types.

Therefore, what is the best and most effective software, and keeps
updating the software product to block any new ways to circumvent the
system?

Dear Fawcett-ga,

The best and most effective software that updates itself automatically
would be iHateSpam.

“iHateSpam automatically updates itself whenever new anti-spam rules
become available. Each time you open your inbox, iHateSpam quietly
checks to see if any new rules are available -- no searching for the
right website, no configuring software. It couldn't be easier. Best of

environments, including behind corporate firewalls.”

Since you have a company with 10 different city locations you would
have to order in volume.

You may order a 10 license pack online.

Ok, but if iHateSpam is better than most, then tell me:

First, why?

Second, you gave me pricing on Outlook and Outlook Express. Why?
What is the difference?

Third, this is taking too long in getting to an answer -- because of
the price I am willing to pay, I should not have to keep returning for
clarification.

Dear Fawcett-ga,

“This is taking too long in getting to an answer -- because of
the price I am willing to pay, I should not have to keep returning for
clarification.”

In your original question you asked:

“Is there available software to block unwanted e-mail, other than a
block for an single e-mail sending address? I want to block all
pornographic messages as well as all other miscellaneous products and
services soliciting business.”

I answered your original question as asked.

You then returned for clarification because you wanted to know “if
this software can be used for your company with 10 different city
locations.”

Since you didn’t mention anything about your company in your original
question you asked for clarification.

I then answered your clarification.

“Second, you gave me pricing on Outlook and Outlook Express. Why?
What is the difference?”

I gave you pricing on Outlook and Outlook Express because they are two
different e-mail programs. I have no way to know which one is being
used in your company. That’s the reason I gave you the price for both
of them.

“Ok, but if iHateSpam is better than most, then tell me: First, why?”

I recommended iHateSpam because it’s an inexpensive and easy-to-use
package that offers accurate filtering. This software updates itself
automatically and you don’t have to configure it. In addition this
product is backed by toll-free phone support. This would be a good
choice for you since you mentioned that you don’t understand
computers.

If you require more than 10 licenses they provide contact information
for high volume ordering.

For higher volume ordering of iHateSpam please contact them directly
at sales@sunbelt-software.com

I hope this clears things up for you.

Sincerely,
Bobbie7

If this is for a larger company that runs its own mail system, you
might look into having a more technically-oriented person install
filters on the mail servers. These are usually more efficient,
reliable, and significantly cheaper. spamassassin
(http://spamassassin.org/) is an excellent choice, but probably not
something you would want to set up yourself.
