I use headers and footers in almost every file. Recently, WORD stopped
formatting these properly, but instead shows the coding -- like { FILE
} -- where it should be substituting the actual data. The same is
happening in the actual text, where URL coding does not operate
properly, etc. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?

Does clicking the TOOLS ---> REVEAL FORMATTING button change anything?

If not, what version of Word are you using?

FORMAT ---> REVEAL FORMATTING

To knowledge-seeker.ga -- thanks...

Doing "format>reveal formatting" does not seem to have any effect. (Of
course, the program is already revealing the formatting -- I'd like it
to conceal it and have it take effect.)

I have WORD 2002 version 10.45... and have Windows 2000 as the
operating system.

Ok... try this ...(I just did it here and it worked in Word 2002)

TOOLS ---> OPTIONS ---> VIEW ---> uncheck the SHOW FIELD CODES box

Well, that did it. Thanks very much!
I'm going to up the compensation by 50 percent.
(That sounds a lot better than it will work out to...)
